Five bedrooms on the Kamala headland, west facing, so every room looks out over the ocean and the house faces the sunset. The name is Thai for blessed by the ocean breeze, after the winds that come in off the Andaman. Dark teak floors, vaulted ceilings, local textiles and carved furnishings sit under clean architectural lines, with Asian art collected across the region. A deep blue infinity pool runs out to the edge of the view, an open air sala above it, a barbecue terrace beside it. At the centre of the house a communal table and galley kitchen, where the live-in chef cooks. Four bedrooms open onto the seaside garden below. The master looks over the water from the bed, and again from a sunken outdoor bath.
What this villa asks of us
West facing glass and teak on an exposed headland means salt and sun work on this house harder than most. The infinity edge, the sala timber and the garden terracing are all on scheduled preventative maintenance rather than repair after failure.
